Cookie & Device Storage
This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies (device storage) used by Carfanz Ltd ("PYCL") in the PYCL mobile app and at pycl.app. It should be read with our Privacy Policy. Contact: info@pycl.app. This policy reflects our obligations under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR.
1. About cookies and device storage
"Cookies" are small files stored by websites. Mobile apps mostly use similar local device storage and software development kits (SDKs) rather than browser cookies. We use these technologies only where needed to run the app, keep it secure, and — with your consent where required — to improve it.
2. What we use
a. Strictly necessary (always on — no consent required) • Login/session: a secure token stored on your device so you stay signed in. • Security & anti-abuse: data to protect your account and prevent misuse and fraud. • Core preferences: settings needed for the app to work (e.g. your feed and display preferences). These are essential to provide a service you have asked for, so they do not require consent. b. Functionality • Remembering choices such as autoplay/reels settings and notification preferences. c. Performance & diagnostics • Limited crash and performance logging so we can fix problems and keep the app stable. Where any such tool is non-essential, we will seek consent as required. d. Analytics (website only) • On our website (pycl.app) we use Google Analytics to understand aggregate, anonymised usage so we can improve the site. These analytics cookies are non-essential: they are off by default and are only set if you accept them in the cookie banner shown on your first visit. If you do not accept, Google Analytics is not loaded and no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time (see "Managing your choices"). The PYCL mobile app does not use Google Analytics. e. Advertising • We do not currently use advertising or advertising-measurement technologies. We intend to introduce advertising — including from third-party advertising networks (such as Google) — as the app grows. Before any advertising or measurement technology that is not strictly necessary is used, we will update this policy and obtain your consent, as PECR/UK GDPR requires.
3. Third parties
Some features rely on third parties that may set their own storage or identifiers, including our hosting and content-delivery provider, our video-streaming provider, push-notification services and the app stores; these are used to deliver the Service. On our website, if — and only if — you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics (provided by Google) sets analytics cookies and processes usage data on our behalf. When we introduce advertising, the providers involved (such as Google) will be listed here, and we will seek your consent, before they go live.
4. Managing your choices
• On the website (pycl.app): analytics cookies are off until you accept them in the cookie banner. You can accept or reject, and you can change your mind at any time — reject in the banner, or clear the site's stored preference in your browser to be asked again. • In the app: you can control notification permissions and relevant preferences in your device and app settings, and manage location permission at the operating-system level. • Consent (where used): where we rely on consent for non-essential technologies (e.g. website analytics, or future advertising), we present a choice and you can change it later. • Push notifications: you can turn these off in your device settings at any time. Blocking strictly necessary storage may stop parts of the app working (for example, staying logged in).
5. Changes
We will update this policy when our use of these technologies changes — in particular before we introduce advertising or third-party analytics.
